Spread the love

In this post, I will be showing you how to live a disciplined life and work more effectively.

Living a disciplined life will definitely help you work more effectively.

And living a life without discipline will make you live a live that is less effective.

This goes to show that living a disciplined life has a relationship to how effective you become in life.

First, let us take a look at what discipline means.

Discipline simply means doing what you ought to do at the right time even when it seems inconvenience for you to do it.

Being disciplined also means having self-control and also developing necessary habits you need to succeed in life.

Now, I will go on to show you how to live a discipline life and work more effectively.

1. Wake up early

One of the first ways to start living a disciplined life is by waking up early every morning.

When you wake up early in the morning every day, you would have unconsciously developed a good habit that most successful people have.

When you see someone that wakes up late every day, one of the conclusion you can draw is that such a person is not disciplined.

But when you see someone that wakes up early, the conclusion you will draw is that the person is disciplined.

Most times this assumption is usually true because when you see a person that loves sleeping, it is a sign that the person  is lazy and not disciplined

You can develop the habit of waking up early in the morning by setting an alarm to wake you up in the morning and this should also be done during the weekend.

When you start this process, you will notice that your body will naturally adjust to waking up early according to the alarm time you have set even if you do not set the alarm.

And that is the way good habits are formed. When you keep doing same thing repeatedly over a period of time.

2.  Start your day with small tasks

One other thing that can help you to start living a disciplined life is when you start your day with small tasks instead of the big tasks.

I have my reason for saying so and I will explain in details below.

The issue is that when you start your day with the big task, you might get exhausted easily if you do not achieve your desired goal.

But when you start your day with small tasks, you will be able to achieve those tasks easily which will motivate you to carry out more tasks.

Well, I’m not saying you should not carry out big tasks, what I’m only saying is that you can break those big tasks down into smaller tasks and by so doing, you will be able to track your success.

Breaking your tasks into smaller ones and starting them small will keep you disciplined.

For instance, it is easy for someone new into body building to do 20 minutes of exercise a day than 2 hours of exercise during the day.

If that person starts with 20 minutes exercise a day, he will be encouraged to continue doing his exercises daily and he will also develop capacity to do more exercise over time.

But if that person starts with 2 hours a day, that person might get demotivated and might not be willing to continue doing exercises daily.

The same thing applies to disciplining yourself. You need to start with small tasks and continue doing those tasks till you achieve your goals.

3.  Learn to focus

Being focused is also an important key to being disciplined in life.

One of the traits most successful people share is the ability to stay focused and achieve their goals.

I know there has been a lot of emphasis on multitasking these days and a lot of employers want their employees to multitask.

But if the multitasking is not done rightly, it can have a negative impact on quality of work which is why it is good most times to stay focused on a task.

Learn to stay focused as much as you can by starting and completing your tasks. Do not develop the habit of starting and task and not finishing that task.

That’s the trait of a lazy person. Instead you should develop the habit of starting and finishing your tasks because that is the trait of a disciplined person.

4.  Exercise regularly

I already discussed about exercising earlier on in this post. The truth is that it can not be over emphasized that maintaining a daily exercise routine can help you become a more disciplined person.

Why do you think that most military personnel are disciplined? It is because they have been taught to control themselves through exercising their body regularly.

This can also be achieved by anyone who makes the right decision to start exercising. You will definitely become a more disciplined person.

Being discipline is not something you just come into in a day. It is something you develop over a period of time.

Try to exercise daily, it could be for 20 or 30 minutes but the important thing is that you make it a daily routine.

5. Take breaks

Breaks should be taken when you are working. For instance, you can decide to take breaks every one hour during work or you can decide to take breaks every 30 minutes during work.

These breaks could be for just 5 minutes.

The fact is that when you don’t take breaks, you will get less effective at work and like you know that our topic also focuses on how to become more effective at work.

Imagine what will happen if you do not sleep for 2 days and you are only doing your work. You will definitely get tired and won’t do your work effectively.

The same thing applies to during your task during the day. Physiologist have found out that humans cannot focus on a task effectively for more than four hours.

After four hours, they start getting exhausted which is why it is important for you to continually take short breaks so that you can effectively carry out your tasks.

You should learn to take break from time to time during work or during your tasks because it will help refresh your brain and help you stay focused.

6. Have a To do list

A to-do list is simply a list that consist of your activities for the day.

That should be one of the first things you do during the day because it can help shape your day. It can make you more productive during the day.

It is not just enough for you to write out your to-do list, you should also carry out the tasks on the list and also review the list sometimes if need be.

A lot of people rush into starting their day and at the end of the day, they do not achieve their goals. This happens because they have refused to plan their day.

If you don’t take control of your day, the day will take control of you.  Make sure you take charge of your day so that you can get the best result out of your day.

Writing out your to-do list is something that you should do every morning. In short, writing out your to-do list every morning on its own is a sign that you are a disciplined person.

7.  Reward yourself

One of the reasons why people do not stay disciplined is because they do not get immediate reward for being disciplined.

This does not make them motivated to stay disciplined.

Most people are motivated by instant results. They want to get results for their works immediately.

In order for you to stay motivated from time to time, you need to continually Reward yourself when you achieve small tasks.

You should not wait for others to appreciate or reward you for your work. You should reward your works from time to time and this can help you stay motivated to being disciplined.

Conclusion

Living a disciplined life is something you can do if you decide to live disciplined.

Do not let  the term discipline scare you because a lot of people feel being disciplined is something that  is not achievable.
