Background: God Told Abraham to Look
After Abraham separated from his nephew Lot, the Bible records a very important moment in his journey of faith. At that time, Abraham had just allowed Lot to choose first where he wanted to settle. Lot chose the well-watered plains of Jordan, which looked attractive and prosperous to the physical eye. Abraham, on the other hand, remained in what seemed like the less desirable land.
It was after this separation that God spoke to Abraham. The Lord said to him, “Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art, northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward” (Genesis 13:14). God deliberately asked Abraham to look in every direction, not casually, but intentionally.
Then God made a powerful promise: “For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever” (Genesis 13:15). This instruction shows us that God connected vision to possession. Abraham did not yet walk through the land, build cities, or have children, yet God said his descendants would inherit everything his eyes could see.
At that moment, Abraham had no physical evidence to support the promise. He had no child, no nation, and no visible sign that the land would belong to him. Yet God was training Abraham to see beyond his present reality and to align his imagination with divine promise.
God was not asking Abraham to admire the land; He was expanding Abraham’s capacity to believe. The land Abraham could see with faith was the land God was ready to give him. This teaches us that God often enlarges our vision before He enlarges our possession.
This background reminds us that faith begins with seeing—seeing through God’s Word, not through circumstances. Just as Abraham had to lift up his eyes and look, we too must intentionally see our future through the promises of God.
My Thoughts for Today: Learning to See Through God’s Eyes
There is a powerful lesson in the life of Abraham that speaks directly to us today. God told Abraham, “Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art… for all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever” (Genesis 13:14–15).
God did not tell Abraham to touch the land first or walk through it before promising it to him. He told him to look. This shows us that what we see matters deeply to God. Before possession comes vision. Before fulfilment comes seeing.
God Wants Us to See the Way He Sees
Many people are limited, not by their circumstances, but by their physical sight. They only see what is happening right now. They judge their future by their present condition. But God does not want us to live like that.
The Bible says, “For we walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7).
This means our lives should not be controlled by what we see physically, but by what God has spoken spiritually.
When God asked Abraham to look, He was not asking him to admire the land; He was training him to see with faith. Abraham had no child at that time, yet God said his descendants would be as far as his eyes could see. God wanted Abraham’s imagination to align with His promise.
Seeing Through the Word of God, Not Circumstances
Living by faith means allowing the Word of God to shape how you see life. Your physical eyes may see lack, delay, or weakness, but the Word of God shows you provision, purpose, and strength.
The Word of God gives you a higher picture. It reveals what God intends, not just what is happening. That is why faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God (Romans 10:17).
Whenever what you see physically contradicts what God has said, you must choose to believe God’s Word. This does not mean denying reality; it means allowing God’s truth to override fear and doubt.
Write the Vision and Make It Plain
The Bible says, “Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it” (Habakkuk 2:2).
Writing the vision is not just an activity; it is part of the process of becoming what God has shown you.
When you write down what God has placed in your heart, you are giving structure to your faith. You are turning imagination into intention. Writing helps you stay focused, especially when life tries to distract you or discourage you.
Vision begins in the spirit, but it must be expressed practically. Writing your vision reinforces what you are seeing through the Word of God and keeps it before you daily.
Developing a Daily Habit of Faith-Based Seeing
Seeing through God’s Word is not a one-time exercise; it is a daily habit. Every day, life will present images, news, challenges, and opinions that can distort your vision. If you do not renew your mind daily, your physical sight will overpower your faith.
That is why the Bible says we should be transformed by the renewing of our mind (Romans 12:2). Each day, you must consciously choose to see yourself the way God sees you—redeemed, purposeful, capable, and called.
The more you practice this, the clearer your spiritual vision becomes.
Preparing for 2026: See Yourself Fulfilling Destiny
As we approach 2026, one of the most important things you need is clarity of vision. You must begin to see what God wants to do through you and in your life. See yourself walking in obedience. See yourself fulfilling purpose. See yourself growing spiritually, mentally, and emotionally.
Your imagination should be guided by God’s promises, not fear. When you see yourself doing God’s will, your actions will gradually align with that vision.
God showed Abraham the future before giving him the fulfilment. In the same way, God wants to show you what lies ahead—if you are willing to see by faith.
Conclusion
What you see determines what you become. If you only see with your physical eyes, you will be limited by your circumstances. But if you learn to see through the Word of God, your faith will stretch beyond your present reality.
Make it a daily habit to see through God’s promises. Write the vision. Meditate on the Word. Allow your imagination to be shaped by God’s truth. As you do this consistently, you will begin to walk into destiny.
